5 TIPS FOR WHEN YOU CAN'T GET GOING
Some people drink their coffee. I put it on my face!
There are those days when I jump out of bed with ideas and so much energy I don't know where to start, and then there are days when putting on my electric tea kettle seems like an accomplishment.
On those days, I have a few tools that help me get past that, as performing at my best and reaching my goals is essential to me.
I made this sign and put it in my work area "FOLLOW YOUR PLAN, NOT YOUR MOOD." I got it from Eric Barker’s blog. I also like to remind myself of my goals and how amazing it feels to accomplish them (it releases dopamine, our "feel-good" neurotransmitter).
Although I gave up coffee a while back, I do "microdose" every once in a while. I also exfoliate my face with freshly made coffee grounds. I make a real strong infusion, let it cool, and gently scrub my face with it, let it sit, and then wash it off. My skin looks great, I feel energized, and the smell is fantastic. Our skin absorbs anything we put on it plus the aroma of fresh coffee is enough to give me some pep!
Next, I take a few ice cubes and massage my face with them. Many people recommend cold showers, but I don't recommend anything I don't do, and they don't seem appealing when it's already tough enough to get started. Ironically, I love cryotherapy, though, but not first thing in the morning. Standing in a negative 166-degree chamber gives me a sense of accomplishment, and the fact that I am not a cold-weather person makes me feel I'm facing my fears. Did you hear about the benefits?!!
I love love love my rebounder, aka mini trampoline! If you don't have one, gently bouncing on your toes or swaying back and forth with arm raises will work wonders! You do it for a minute or two, and you feel the energy. You can also add some upbeat music.
I have been obsessed with Peppermint Essential Oil for years. It is my go-to for energy dips. For best results, inhale it through your right nostril while enjoying a cup of hot chocolate. I take two teaspoons of cacao powder, add a pinch of cinnamon and stevia, and pour some hot water. It's so delicious, full of health benefits, and highly energizing.
At times, these remedies are so effective, I can't sit still, so I have to supplement with L-Theanine, which is scientifically proven to improve concentration.
Bonus - if you are a coffee lover, the combination of coffee and L-theanine will give you a clear, energized focus and a great mood. Read more here.
