The Magic of Ghee

At times, life gives us challenges that we don’t understand. I choose to think that these are clues to the puzzle that we are to solve.

For most of my life, as many complaints as I could find about myself – chubby thighs, big nose, straight hair (I always wanted curly), etc., I never complained about acne. My skin was clear.

When 2020 rolled around, I was also surprised to be ok with my age, finally. I managed to have a positive outlook even during these challenging times. I found things to be grateful for. I got to spend more time with my son than ever before. Even though most of the time was spent nagging him to brush teeth, drink water and get off of YouTube, I still got many hugs and cuddles and I really got to know him better. And for the first time in many years I didn’t have to rush to catch a bus or train after dropping him at pre-care.

I came to a point where everything was manageable. I was hopeful. I loved learning about health and finally discovered what I was great at – helping others improve their health. I was joyful but I felt guilty for being so happy at a time when so many suffered.

As summer came to an end, the stresses began adding up and then like a wildfire, out of the blue, my face was red, inflamed and itchy. It got to the point where it was difficult even to complete my meditation, as I just felt uncomfortable.

Being an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, I knew this was not a skin issue. The root of the problem had to be in my gut. In this day and age, we are used to treating symptoms – taking Advil for a headache instead of eliminating what caused the headache in the first place, etc. Unfortunately, treating the true cause takes time and effort. I eliminated certain foods, added vitamins and found additional ways to manage stress and overwhelm. One addition to my routine, however, had the greatest impact.

I am lucky, as I have had several challenges in the past that I overcame by tuning in and trusting Mother nature - depression, anxiety, bloating, amenorrhea, infertility, so I knew it was only a matter of time.

Ghee was like magic!

These are just some benefits of ghee:

  • Improves gut health and lubricates intestines

  • Strengthens the brain and the nervous system

  • Can help with weight loss

  • Reduces inflammation

  • It smells like caramel and has a high smoke point, so it’s great for cooking

I started taking 1 – 2 teaspoons in warm water 30 minutes before eating every morning and my skin started getting better.

I know that my journey to great, radiant skin that I had before is not over but being hopeful and trusting in my ability to heal is powerful!
