ANXIETY ON VACATION?
If the root cause of your anxiety is nutrient deficiencies or blood sugar fluctuations, neither deep breathing nor exercising will help much.
After studying nutrition for many years, I knew that vitamin deficiencies and blood sugar fluctuations could induce a feeling of anxiety. But after experiencing it on my “relaxing vacation,” it was truly scary.
The worst part is that when you are in that state, you feel so out of control you just want to cry. I was with my family on a gorgeous sunny day in the most relaxing place that I love – Saint Martin and I was in a deep state of panic, trying to hold myself together. I had to force myself to go back to the room, open the vitamin capsule, and put it under my tongue (this is the trick I use to get it into my bloodstream quicker, to bypass digestion).
I am not a fan of feeling that I have to depend on outside sources for me to feel ok but at times, it’s the right choice. I was amazed at how quickly my anxiety dissipated. I am so grateful that I packed my B vitamins.
If you experience anxiety, especially if you are prone to eating more vegetarian fare during summer, see if B vitamins can make it easier. In my experience also, a protein-rich breakfast prevents blood sugar fluctuations.
What to do if you don't have B vitamins with you? Eating eggs, fish, chicken, beef, sunflower seeds, or beans could help. I don't eat red meat often but found that at certain times one to two ounces can make a huge difference in lifting that anxious feeling and helping with my mood. Also, remember that caffeine and alcohol deplete your body of certain B vitamins.
